Swati Thapa
I am Swati Thapa of 27 from Kathmandu, Nepal currently holding the position of International Project Coordinator in the International Youth Council Srilankan Chapter leading all the international projects developing strategic planning and implementation collaborating with wide range of global organizations. In the competitive professional set of Kathmandu city, I started my career in the year 2009 with a largest semi-government organization, National Trust for Nature Conservation which operates under Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Government of Nepal. During the time, as a core member of the management committee “Kalapathhar to Copenhagen Campaign for ‘Save the Himalayas’, I actively participated in raising the voice by bringing professionals, politicians, students, media personnel and youths together. The campaign was significant and started with the Historic Cabinet meeting at the Everest base camp on December 04, 2009 and Summiteers’ Summit to Save the Himalayas at Copenhagen, Denmark on December 11, 2009. In the year 2010, I was felicitated by the Government of Nepal for the outstanding contribution and performance made during the campaign.During my professional journey, I thrived as an outstanding young employee being deputed to work at Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Government of Nepal at Minister’s Office to assist in the plan and policies initiated under the Secretariat Office, Government of Nepal for the period of eight months. I have recently completed my Master’s in Conflict, Peace and Development Studies at Tribhuvan University. In the year 2011, I was awarded with the full scholarship by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) to attend a special course on International Development Studies at International Summer School, University of Oslo and I completed the graduate course with an excellent grade. My interest in climate change science received further support when photo story “Youths-Solutions to Climate Change” was declared as a winner contestant on the ICIMOD day organized by ICIMOD, Nepal. In the year 2012, I was selected on a competitive basis onbehalf of Nepalese Youths to attend 6th World Youth Congress at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the sustainability theme of Rio+20 Summit and to represent the voice of Nepalese Youths among the global leaders, UN representatives and professional to promote global sustainability and local development at our own communities.
